The Oldsmobile Cutlass stands as one of the most popular models of it’s day.
1970 was the pinnacle of performance from Oldsmobile.
1970 Oldsmobile W-Machines (W-30, W-31) are considered to be the ultimate Oldsmobile Super Cars, and are amongst some of the most sought after muscle cars, by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The 1970 W-30 featured a 455 ci, underrated, 370hp @ 5,200 rpm and 500 lbs tq @ 3,600 rpm ”select fit” blue printed and balanced engine, right from GM, as well as a complement of other Hi-Performance parts to round out the exciting W-Machine option.
The W-31 for 1970 in essence is very similar to the W-30, but for the cubic inch displacement of the engine.
W-30 was an option of the 442, while W-31 was an option on the Cutlass.
Standard equipment for the W-31 in 1970:
350ci 325hp @ 5,400 rpm and 360 lb tq @ 3,600 rpm ”select fit” blue printed and balanced engine, with flat top high compression pistons.

Note: In 1970 Oldsmobile produced a total of approximately 355 W-Machines with a special aluminum rear end center section coded W-27. This is one of those 355 vehicles as verified by the original owner and pre-restoration pictures. The W-27 Aluminum rear is no longer with this car, but a correct factory replacement 12 bolt rear with correct GM 3.91 gears and posi, is under the car now.
